Armin van Buuren plays for Dutch Royal family in New York
September 9 th, 2009 - Saturday September 12th, Dutch top-DJ Armin van Buuren will be officially announced by the Dutch royal family. Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and princess Máxima of The Netherlands will announce the DJ during the New Island Festival. There, van Buuren will play a free 3 hour set at the New York Harbor, as part of the NY 400, the celebration of the Dutch-American pioneers.
Once upon a time, New York City was sold to a Dutchman for only 60 guilders. However, after 40 years, the Englishmen conquered the city. But throughout the years, the bond between Holland and New York always remained. With performances of more than 150 Dutch artists during 10-12 and 17-20 September, the New Island Festival celebrates the universal character of art and culture, and therewith the bond between these two places.
As part of the Festival, Armin van Buuren, voted most popular DJ of the World twice in a row in the renowned DJ Mag Top 100, will play at a free party at the Governers Island Water Taxi Beach. Right before his 3 hour set, the princely couple will announce the Dutch DJ.
